Olive oil: the liquid gold of Vico nel Lazio

We welcome a new initiative at Vico nel Lazio, aiming at a better diffusion of the true liquid gold of the region: olive oil. The company "Olivicola degli Ernici", in their own words, "arose from the idea that an olive mill could offer something more". Their inspiration came from the surrounding territory: the silhouettes of the medieval towers in Vico nel Lazio, the shapes of the mountains, not to mention the olives and the oil itself. These elements acted as the driving force behind their mission.

Olivicola degli Ernici is an emerging company in the territory of Vico nel Lazio and the Ernici Mountains. With their modern olive mill they are dedicated to the production of organic extra virgin olive oil, ensuring high quality standards and entirely "organic" products, while maintaining internal guidelines for defining the cultivation areas, as well as the harvesting and oil production processes.
"Olivicola degli Ernici" is at:

Domenico Pelone and his renowned "supplì"

Vico nel Lazio is not only known for its art and culture treasuries, but also for its country-style cuisine. If you have never tried "supplì", come to Vico and experience some of the best ones you can find in Italy. The master chef at Bar Pelone is Domenico, proudly showing in the picture above the result of his creation.
Supplì (Italianisation of the French word surprise) are Italian snacks consisting of a ball of rice (generally risotto) with tomato sauce and raw egg, typical of the Roman Cuisine. Originally, they were filled with mincemeat, now also with a piece of mozzarella; the whole morsel is soaked in egg and coated with bread crumbs and then fried (usually deep-fried). The supplì can be also prepared without tomato sauce (Suppli' in bianco).
The dish is native to Rome from the region of Lazio in Italy.
Supplì are usually eaten with the fingers: when one is broken in two pieces, the mozzarella becomes drawn out in a string somewhat resembling the cord connecting a telephone handset to the hook. This has led to these dishes being known as supplì al telefono.

An invitation to visit Vico nel Lazio

Why should you visit Vico nel Lazio?

For several reasons why.

It is not easy to find a little town, surrounded by a medieval wall with 25 towers and three main gates, kept basically intact form the Middle Age to our times.

The town is rich of monuments and artisitic attractions, all many centuries old.

Far from any pollution (it is located on the top of hill at 720 meters above sea level), but not far from Rome (that you can reach in just a bit more than one hour, taking the highway), Vico nel Lazio is the ideal place for a relaxing visit or a short vacation.

The region around, "Ciociaria", is reach in beautiful landscapes, history, monuments, art and, last but not least, country-style, inexpensive restaurants.

Are you fond of golf? A few kilometers far from Vico there is Fiuggi, worldwide famous for its thermal springs, with its wonderful golf club, the oldest in Italy.
